The Honolulu Association of Insurance Professionals (HAIP) has been approved as a Provider by the Hawaii State Insurance Division (#207691) and is offering the following classes.  The cost for each course is shown on the course schedule.

The following courses have been approved by the Hawaii Insurance Division for continuing education credit.  Refer to the specific class webpage for course details.

Life & Health Insurance Basics (4 CE Credits)

This course provides a fundamental understanding of life & health insurance coverage, including the definitions of insurable interest, risk, adverse selection, moral hazard & survivor protection. Also covered are the types of ins companies, the law of agency, the underwriting process, elements of a
valid ins contract, an explanation of mortality & expense charges, with a brief section on tax aspects of life insurance. Types of life ins; term vs. permanent are presented in detail. The role of medical ins is addressed;traditional fee-for-service plans compared to managed care, including various mechanisms for controlling health care expenditures. Both group & individual policies are reviewed. Other types of health ins are reviewed:disability income, long term care & workers’ compensation. NO Exam.

Intro to Claims - (20 CE Credits)
This program provides a broad view of the function of the claims department, claims representative, and claims management and principles of insurance policy interpretation.

Cybercrime: The Hidden Exclusions (6 CE Credit)
The rapid advance of technology has changed the way all commerece is carried out. The world of High Tech has outpaced the talent pool of workers, the judicial system and the insurance industry. This course explores the exposures of CyberCrime (Cyber Risk), the gaps in conventional insurance products in an electronic environment and the solutions for managing the risks. This is a six (6) hour couorse and there is NO Exam.

Introduction to Workers Compensation (20 CE Credits)
Origins, scope and application of State and Federal Workers Compensation Laws, detail of policy structure and coverage's, claims benefits and procedure, introduction to rate making, experience rating, retrospective rating and dividends.

Let's Talk Coverage (4 CE Credits)
In this four-hour seminar, case studies are used to learn about homeowners’ insurance coverage from actual claims situations. The particulars of these case studies will increase your awareness of the many coverages, limitations and exclusions in the ISO Homeowners’ Policy. This will help you recommend proper coverages concerning limits of liability, endorsements, and special provisions. There is NO Exam.

Underwriting for Non-Underwriters (6 CE Credits)
A complete overview of the different aspects of the underwriting profession covering personal lines, commercial lines, workers compensation, life/health and surety bonds underwriting issues.
